Choosing the right vehicle
What each vehicle carries, why sizes matter, and when to request an HGV.
Updated 29 Oct 2026
What each vehicle carries
- Car: up to 250kg. Parts, fixings, the small box.
- Van (SWB, MWB, LWB, X-LWB): from 600kg in the smallest to 1.2t in the larger vans. Boxes, bags, boilers, lengths.
- Luton Van: up to 1t, with a tail-lift for pallets and bulky kit.
- 3.5T Flatbed: up to 1.35t. Timber, steel, long loads.
- HGV and HIAB: on request, for anything heavier or anything that needs a crane.
Get the sizes and weight right
Only vehicles that can take the size and weight you enter in Item Details are offered, so get them right. If the load is bigger or heavier than you said, the driver may not be able to take it all, or may not be able to take it safely. The weight, the longest length and the overall size all count.
When you need an HGV
Anything over 1.35t, or anything that needs a crane to unload, goes as an HGV request:
- Choose HGV Request in the booking app (the order form also suggests it when your load is too heavy).
- Add the pickup and delivery addresses, the vehicle you need, the approximate weight, the date, what's being moved, the loading, unloading and access details, and your contact details.
- Choose Review Enquiry, then Submit Enquiry.

HGVs are booked at least a day in advance. Our team finds quotes from our network of HGV operators, usually within a couple of hours, and gets back to you to confirm.
